Women Councillors' 4th Annual Conference - "Women Lead the Country"

Women Councillors' 4th Annual Conference  -

on July 3, 2017 to support gender equality in local self-governance bodies Bridge – Innovation and Development (BRIDGE) participated in 4th annual conference of women councilors in Tbilisi “Women Lead the Country”

The conference was organized by the Municipal Service Providers Association (MSPA) of Georgia and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) under the UN Joint Programme for gender Equality in Georgia funded by the Government of Sweden.

Representative of Bridge – Innovation and Development Maia Grdzelishvili presented to the participants training modules elaborated by BRIDGE -“ Gender Mainstreaming in Public Sector and Development Projects”. The Training manual contains many of the materials used on gender mainstreaming that can be used by anyone who wants to build shared learning approach into their own work.

The forum was attended by the representatives of civil society organizations, executive governmental institutions, parliament of Georgia and international organizations.

Participants of the Women Councilors’ forum presented the annual report of their work in 2017 and discussed the ways how to increase women’s political participation at local level and focused on the role of women in local governance, especially in the areas of municipal planning, budgeting, policy-making and the existing gender policies in Georgia as well as the mechanisms of engaging citizens at local level.

At the end of the forum to emphasize their support to all women candidates in the coming elections regardless of their political affiliation members of the forum signed the pledge of solidarity, which stated:
“We condemn sexism, gender inequality and gender-based violence, hate speech and disrespect to privacy in politics and in every other area of life”
